A nudge is a small, friendly prompt that appears near the chat bubble at just the right moment to invite a shopper to start a conversation with your AI Shopping Assistant — for example, "Need help finding something?" on a product page.
How nudges work in the assistant
Nudges are proactive but not pushy. They watch for the right moment and offer a helping hand — but the shopper is always in control. If someone isn't interested, they can simply ignore or dismiss a nudge, and it won't keep nagging them. There are sensible frequency limits built in, so shoppers see a gentle invitation rather than a stream of interruptions. (For the specifics, see How often will shoppers see nudges?.)
This is also what makes a nudge different from a classic popup. A popup usually just displays a message or a form. A nudge is tied to the assistant — tapping it opens a helpful conversation, so the shopper can ask questions and get answers right away.
Why nudges help you
Nudges turn passive browsers into engaged shoppers by offering help exactly when it's useful — when a new visitor arrives, when someone is studying a product page, when a shopper looks like they're about to leave, or when a shopper has a cart that's filling up. By meeting shoppers at these moments, nudges open conversations that might otherwise never happen.
You're always in charge of which nudges are active. Most are Smart Nudges — ready-made, pre-written prompts you simply switch on. (For how these compare to other options, see Smart Nudges vs Manual Nudges — what's the difference?.)
The kinds of nudges available
In this version, you can turn on:
- Welcome — greets first-time visitors arriving at your store.
- Welcome Back — welcomes returning visitors.
- Product Questions — appears on product pages to offer help with that product.
- Exit Intent — appears when a shopper looks like they're about to leave.
- Cart Booster — appears when a shopper's cart is getting full.
- Low Stock Urgency — appears when a product the shopper is viewing has limited stock availability.
- Abandoned Cart — appears when a returning shopper still has items in their cart from a previous visit.
