Facebook mobile: Digital Download and PayPal issues

There are a few known issues that are specific to the mobile interface of Facebook. This isn't exclusive to Apps installed on Facebook, it can also happen when a user links to their site from Facebook. In that case, the end-user opens the site in their Facebook mobile UI rather than an actual web browser. The Facebook browser behaves differently from actual browsers, which is why issues on there are difficult to resolve. Here are a couple of issues we know about:

eCommerce, PayPal Button, etc. do not properly redirect to PayPal

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Share App link on Facebook
  2. Open Facebook on your mobile phone. 
  3. Access the user's Facebook Page and open the link to their App.
  4. Add an item to the cart.
  5. Try to check out.
  6. You'll most likely see just a blank page.

We believe this issue was solved for a while, but it appears to randomly come back. Tell users we are aware and that we are working on it. 

$0 Digital Download displays blob of text instead of downloading file

If a user offers their Digital Download for free, clicking on the 'Add to Cart' button should immediately download the file. In the Facebook mobile UI (App accessed through Facebook on phone), this doesn't work. The end-user will see something like this:

Workaround for this is to do the following for users who complain: 

  1. Log into https://aws.amazon.com and use the joshmaymedia@gmail.com login (in LastPass)
  2. Navigate to S3
  3. Navigate to app_images/resizable
  4. Type in the beginning few letters of the downloadable file after "resizable%2F" (e.g. if it is app_images%2Fresizable%2F63fddc76-f8e3-4fc5-9078-d974f7dba27f%2FForm+Builder+Screen+Shot (2), search for "63fdd" )
  5. Open the resulting folder and for any files in there that need to be downloaded.
  6. Change the Meta Data value to application/pdf (or whatever type of file it is).
  7. Click save
